Back when I was writing Fractal Genesis, I found that I was throwing away most of what I was creating using the traditional pencil and paper method. At the [repeated] urging of Mark Sullivan, I finally checked out his work in abstract photography. As I was also working with scores by Davidovsky, Stockhausen, and Xenakis at the time, it seemed like a good idea to start experimenting with creating graphical abstracts of what I wanted the sound to look like, and then translate that into modern notation. Several months later, I had a completed piece and around 300 visual works, the best of which I’ve posted below.
All of these pieces were created using a combination of Apophysis, the GIMP, and a lot of experimenting to get everything “just right.”
